Non-Destructive Testing

for Material Analysis with Positron Life Time Spectroscopy
positron spectroscopy
Very first experiment
results
A sample consiting of Si/Si02 was irradiated with Bremsstrahlung photons (top left) and lifetime-gated image A) is obtained as ratio of long lifetimes B) to all lifetimes C).
  • HZDR e- accelerator ELBE with adjustable repetition rate of about 10-20 MHz , produce bremsstrahlung
  • Convert hard X-rays into electron-positron pairs inside the sample of interest Wait for positron annihilation.
  • Detect energy and time of arrival of both annihilation quanta
  • Reconstruct image of annihilation sites and gate on positron lifetime.
